VADODARA — A multidisciplinary research team led by the Department of Biochemistry and Botany at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU) has announced a significant scientific breakthrough in the characterization of traditional medicinal flora native to the Pavagadh foothills.

The research paper, published in the European Journal of Phytotherapy, details the isolation and crystallization of a bioactive polyphenol designated 'Sayaji-Flavone B'. Laboratory trials indicate the molecule modulates specific inflammatory cytokines with minimal cellular toxicity compared to standard synthetic alternatives.

"Vadodara has a rich heritage of botanical and pharmacological scholarship dating back over a century," stated lead investigator Dr. K. Vyas. "This discovery bridges venerable Ayurvedic wisdom with rigorous modern molecular biology."

The university has filed provisional patent protection while initiating collaborative dialogues with pharmaceutical formulation facilities in the Vadodara-Savli industrial biotechnology cluster for standardized clinical trials.
