GENEVA — Following twenty days of intense behind-the-scenes negotiation, delegates from both the global North and the developing South concluded the Environmental Technology Access Compact (ETAC).

The treaty’s cornerstone is the elimination of border duties on essential clean transition hardware, including grid-scale flow batteries, membrane water desalination systems, and energy-efficient agricultural cooling units.

Indian trade negotiators played a central bridging role throughout the talks, successfully defending the rights of regional manufacturing hubs to participate in localized production partnerships without facing exclusionary intellectual property barriers.
