BHUJ — In the barren salt flats and coastal reaches of the Great Rann of Kutch, what was once considered inhospitable terrain has evolved into the world's largest contiguous hybrid renewable energy installation.

The project, which integrates bifacial solar tracking arrays with tall-mast offshore-grade wind turbines, marked a significant milestone today with the energization of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission corridor connecting Bhuj with central Gujarat’s industrial demand nodes.

Engineers on site highlighted the technological hurdles overcome, including specialized corrosion-resistant metallurgy for coastal salinity and automated dry-cleaning robotic wipers that keep photovoltaic modules pristine without depleting scarce local freshwater supplies.

State power authorities anticipate that by mid-2027, the Kutch corridor will offset more than 45 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, directly powering heavy chemical complexes, steel rolling mills, and automobile assembly corridors in Vadodara and Sanand.
